The Runes of Aldur League
Runes of Aldur is the v0.5.0 challenge league for Path of Exile 2. It turns each area into a small crafting gamble: choose a Remnant craft, add runic shapes for risk and reward, then defeat the raised monsters to claim the result.
Core mechanic
- Each area contains a Remnant where you engrave Runic Recipes into available slots.
- Remnants can roll from 2 to 10 slots; more slots are rarer and allow stronger crafts.
- Each extra Runeshape adds another enemy wave and more runic modifiers.
- The monsters can drop Verisium, the metal used for Runeforging.
- Farrow is the new NPC who guides the league mechanic through four campaign quests.
Runeforging unlocks

Runic Ward
Runic Ward is a new defensive layer from Runeforging. It begins protecting you after your life reaches 1, takes damage before you die, and regenerates independently from life. Armour below item level 55 gains it without a downside; higher-level armour trades part of its normal base defences for Runic Ward.
Kalguuran gems
Remnants can craft a new Kalguuran gem package: 23 active skills and 7 supports. These skills lean into Ward costs, Ward scaling, Verisium themes, minions, runes, and explosive transformations.
- Active examples: Animus Exchange, Bitter Dead, Conductive Runes, Detonate Living, Frostflame Nova, Grim Pillars, Hollow Shell, Rain of Blades, Runic Reprieve, Skyfall, Verisium Manifestations, Voltaic Barrier, Wardbound Minions.
- Support examples: Concussive Runes, Fist of Kalguur, Healing Runes, Runeforged Blades, Runic Extraction, Runic Infusion, Scouring Flame.
Expedition connection
Expedition is folded into Runes of Aldur for the league. Logbooks become an ocean exploration system, the Runes of Aldur hub is the Ruins of Kingsmarch, and Medved, Vorana, Uhtred, and Olroth become faction leaders on new islands. Defeating Olroth grants a key toward the Runes of Aldur pinnacle boss.
